Memo to self: replace Yumi's Digimon partner with a different kind to avoid confusion with the Floramon partnered with Catherine Deneuve, who is now going to play a minor role in the story. Narrowed down to: Coronamon, Renamon (replace guest-appearing Renamon with partner one filling the role)

DigiDestined An international collection of youth handpicked by the powers that be of the Digital World to each partner with their own personal Digimon companion and help preserve the balance of the Digital World, also known as Chosen Children by some eastern circles. DigiDestined typically qualify for the role after having witnessed some form of Digimon activity and are deemed to have some sort of trait that can help raise and bond with a Digimon. A DigiDestined can be distinguished by ownership of a "Digivice" (D-3 model if recruited in 2002 or later) and devoted relationship with a Digimon whose default level (usually) is at "rookie".

1999 DigiDestined

Alternatively, the Highton View Terrace DigiDestined. The group of eight first gained the attention of the Digital World in 1995 while living in Highton View Terrace, an apartment complex in Nerima, Tokyo, when Kamiya siblings 7-year-old Tai and 4-year-old Kari found a Digi-Egg and hatched it into a Botamon. The Botamon became a Koromon, an abnormally large Agumon, and then a red Greymon before encountering and engaging in battle with a Parrotmon outside the complex. The battle was witnessed by the Kamiya siblings, as well as half-brothers Matt Ishida and T.K. Takaishi, Sora Takenouchi, Mimi Tachikawa, Izzy Izumi, and Joe Kido. The massive damage was blamed to the public on a terrorist attack, and the witnesses' families moved away, most of them to the Tokyo island of Odaiba.

Seven of the eight attended summer camp in 1999, with Kari staying home sick, and were drawn to File Island in the Digital World to meet their partners, becoming the first team of DigiDestined since the early 1980's. They were summoned to deal with the return of the Dark Masters, four power-hungry mega level Digimon who were originally defeated by the 1980 DigiDestined. However, along the way, they ran afoul with such opponents as Devimon on File Island and Etemon in the neighboring continent, Server. They were also detoured by the mechanisms of a tyrant named Myotismon, who sought to locate the eighth DigiDestined on Earth and take over. By the time the complete team of eight returned to the Digital World, it has been completely reconfigured and taken over by the Dark Masters. With a good deal of difficulty (and some in-team emotional drama along the way), the eight were ultimately able to defeat all four Dark Masters permanently.

However, the Digital World didn't reformat back to normal in the absence of the Dark Masters, and their deletion drew the attention of their creator, Apocalymon, a maddened mix of all the remaining data from extinct Digimon in the past. Apocalymon trapped the DigiDestined and was nearly impossible to defeat, but the eight gained their second wind by remembering what qualities the Digital World deemed each of them special by and banded together to overcome the monster. The Digital World reformatted as a result with its time ratio slowing down to match Earth's, and the DigiDestined and their partners believed they would have to say goodbye forever. However, a mysterious and dangerous Digimon running amock in the world network brought them back together, if not in person. At least, not until Matt and Tai were drawn into the Internet for the final stretch of the battle.

From then on, the kids had access to a special Digital Port from computers that could allow them in and out of the Digital World with their Digivices when opened. But the Digi-Port couldn't be opened manually, and it was difficult to predict when the port would next open, so the kids would often take whatever opportunity they could. That changed in 2002 when a corrupted DigiDestined calling himself the Digimon Emperor acquired an upgraded "Dark Digivice" that prevented Digimon from digivolving and began taking over the Digital World dark obelisks called Control Spires that gave him total mind control of whatever Digimon in the area he ensnared with special Dark Rings. Three new DigiDestined were given new Digivices based on the Emperor's: Davis Motomiya, Yolei Inoue, and Cody Hida. And Kari and T.K.'s Digivices were updated to match, with Izzy studying and dubbing them D-3s. The new Digivices could manually open the Digi-Port and allowed the new DigiDestined team to perform an older, armor-based digivolving on their partners, and the older 1999 DigiDestined would act as mentors to the team. Eventually, the new team would rescue the Emperor, whose real name as Ken Ichijouji, from his corruption and come into opposition with the ones who festered his corruption for their own gains. This ultimately led to the return of the old team's enemy Myotismon as MaloMyotismon, and the new team ultimately defeated him.

Roughtly two years later, Davis, Yolei, Cody, and Ken went missing while investigating a new threat to the Digital World, and the Digi-Port closed itself off to even Kari and T.K.'s D-3 Digivices. About a year after, infected and feral Digimon began popping out of distortions in the barrier between worlds and causing bad press for Digimon in general. The team was joined by a transfer student named Meiko Mochizuki and her partner Meicoomon, but Meicoomon was uncovered to be the source of the infection only after the eight partners became infected. The wide spread of the infection forced a hard reboot of the Digital World, which Izzy intended to work around by creating a memory backup for their Digimon partners, but a battle with a feral Meicoomon prevented any of them from properly using it. A mysterious digital entity using a dark version of Digital Agent Gennai's form attempted to exacerbate Meicoonmon's condition to the point of bringing about a digital apocalypse of Earth, but Izzy found that Meicoomon had inadvertently absorbed the backup system and now held compressed backup files of every Digimons' memories and unlocked them with Meiko's help. The dangerous and corrupted Meicoomon had to be struck down to prevent catastrophe as well as end her suffering, but her uninfected Digi-Egg would later show up again.

Meiko returned to her old home with her resurrected partner, and the 1999 DigiDestined team would work to try and improve the global reputation of Digimon while providing aide to new DigiDestined around the world. The missing members of the 2002 team, who were found and rescued by Tai during "Dark Gennai's" schemes, joined in assisting them once they made a full recovery. Unfortunately, Dark Gennai escaped punishment for his actions and could return to strike again any day...

  Taichi "Tai" Kamiya
(age 18)

Tai Kamiya's first encounter with a Digimon was at the age of seven when a Botamon egg appeared out of his family's computer and was discovered by him and his 4-year-old sister, Kari. Despite not knowing what it was when it hatched, the two kids dicreetly took care of the Botomon as he digivolved into a Koromon, a larger than average Agumon, and then finally a red Greymon. When an aggressive Parrotmon attacked the area outside their Highton View Terrace apartment complex, Greymon fought back with the Kamiya siblings' encouragement. Their hand in helping the Digimon they found digivolve made the higher powers of the Digital World take interest in Tai and Kari, along with six other kids who witnessed the battle. Both battling Digimon were pulled back through the gate above the complex area, in a process which wiped their memory of the real world. Consequently, while the Digimon who became Greymon would meet Tai again, most including the Digimon himself would assume it was different Greymon until much later.

The reunion, in truth, had been set in motion not long after Greymon was returned to the Digital World and back to a Botamon egg. Agents of the Digital World used data gathered from scanning the eight witnesses of the battle to imprint onto a Digimon egg for each witness, with Digivices created to seal the bond and special Crests tuned to each child's key virtue to further strengthen it. The Botamon egg was chosen for Tai due to the bond they had already formed, despite the Digimon's memory loss. The base of the agents was attacked by four warlords known as the Dark Masters, who killed most of the agents except for one namaed Gennai, who barely managed to escape with the eight eggs and the attached Digivices. The eggs hatched alone in a central island of the Digital World called File Island, and they stayed there waiting for the ones they had been imprinted to see as partners.

Four years later, Tai was an athletic preteen with a good heart if a thick head. He and Kari had been signed up to attend summer camp, but Kari would miss it due to coming down with a cold shortly before camp would begin. Tai was all for her staying home for her health, not wanting a repeat of an incident a few years back when Kari tried to play outside in spite of an illness at the time that developed into pneumonia and put her in the hospital. As if by fate, Tai would share a cabin with the other six witnesses of the Greymon and Parrotmon battle from before, unaware of the connection in the moment. In the midst of an unnatural blizzard, all seven kids at the cabin were pulled through a gate into the Digital World by the arrival of their Digivices. There, Botamon had already become Koromon while waiting for his destined partner, and the other kids' partners had similarly reached their so-called "in-training" forms.

The seven kids and their partners managed to bond after the latter digivolved to their "rookie" forms and fought back against a big bug called a Kuwagamon to protect the former. Agumon later achieved a natural orange Greymon form to fend off a Shellmon. As Izzy, one of the other kids, examined their surroundings through scientific principle and eventually figured out the exact nature of where they were, the kids and Digimon repeatedly encountered Digimon infected by black gears. When the group, after some debate, finally agreed to climb the mountain in the center of the island to get a better view of their surroundings, they came across a cozy mansion that ended up being a trap set by Devimon, the dark force plauging File Island and sending out the black gears. Devimon separated them and split the island in pieces in order to keep them away. But they all managed to make their way back with the help of friendly Digimon, including the noble Leomon after Tai's Digivice drove out the black gears letting Devimon command him.

When the group made it back together, finding youngest member T.K. in the Primary Village where Digimon eggs form, they took the fight to Devimon. They only won once T.K.'s partner Patamon digivolved into the form of Angemon and focused all of his energy into an attack that took out Devimon but reduced himself to an egg. It was only after that Gennai, now reduced to the form of an old man, was able to get in touch with the seven remotely and inform them of both the Crests, which had been scattered around the nearby Server Continent, and of there being stronger Digimon they will have to face. The team freed a Whamon from a remaining black gear and hitched a ride in the whale to the underwater cave where Devimon had hidden the Tags that normally hold the missing Crests, then they continued on to Server.

Upon reaching Server, the group ran afoul with a tyranical monkey-like diva of a Digimon named Etemon and free a Koromon village from Etemon's Pagumon minions, in the process finding Tai's Crest of Courage. Tai tried to force Agumon into digivolving further through the power of the Crest, but his abuse of its power resulted in Agumon turning into a dark Digimon named SkullGreymon who went out of control before running out of steam and changing all the way back to Koromon. Tai recognized the fault in his actions and promised to do better. After Mimi found her Crest of Sincerity, the group was rescued from a jam by the small yet powerful Piximon, who promised to train them for their upcoming fights. While the rest were left to manual labor, Tai and Agumon were led to a cave where they confront visions of their past and come to understand that their fear of making another mistake like SkullGreymon is preventing Agumon from properly digivolving. They returned to the rest of the group after Matt and Izzy had already found their Crests of Friendship and Knowledge, respectively, and then defeated a Tyrannomon attacking the group, wrecking Etemon's survaillence network in the process.

When the kids and their partners answered a plea for help from a tech-savvy Digimon named Datamon from Etemon in exchange for Sora's Crest of Love, they ended up falling into a trap as Datamon planned to clone Sora to control Biyomon. Tai was stricken with fear by Izzy concluding that, even though they are within a Digital World, they could still be killed for real. However, he worked his way through Datamon's deadly booby traps for Sora's sake, and that act of courage empowered Agumon to digivolve to his proper "ultimate" form, MetalGreymon and fight Etemon when he merged with his dark network. The ensuing battle tore open a portal that flung Tai and the de-digivolved Koromon back to Tokyo, where the pair discovered that not only had less than a day passed on Earth, despite how long they were in the Digital World, but hostile Digimon were already fading in and out of existence there and causing strange phenomenom, including the freak blizzard at summe camp. After briefly meeting with Kari back home, Tai and Koromon, who digivolved back to Agumon, were pulled by another portal back to the Digital World. By the time they return, weeks had passed there and the group had already split up, so they set off to find everyone.

After finding Patamon (currently his "in-training" form of Tokomon) and helping him make up with T.K. after the latter was tricked by a devious Digimon named DemiDevimon, the slowly reforming group found Matt and Joe in time to witness Matt activate his Crest of Friendship and digivolve Gabumon to WereGarurumon. The group of four humans and Digimon each decided to split up to further seek out the rest of their friends. While Matt, T.K., and partners were off locating Izzy and Tentomon; Tai, Joe, and partners found Mimi being treated as a princess by a castle full of frog-like Gekomon who believed her karaoke skills could awaken their slumbering leader, ShogunGekomon. However, Mimi had become complacent in her treatment and kept making excuse after excuse as to why she couldn't sing so as to prolong her stay. When her friends, including Palmon, attempted to record her singing voice behind her back so that she could move on, Mimi caught on and angrily had all five locked away. That night, however, Mimi had a change of heart and released her friends from prison, finally agreeing to sing as the Gekomon had asked of her. While ShogunGekomon proved hostile upon waking, the DigiDestined were able to make it out of the castle grounds triumphant and continue their search.

Once the groups reunited and find Sora and Biyomon, the group was ambushed by DemiDevimon's boss, the vampiric Myotismon, and Biyomon divivolved through Sora's Crest of Love into Garudamon to help the group escape. They learned from Gennai that Myotismon was seeking an eighth DigiDestined in the real world, prompting the group to infiltrate Myotismon's castle to find his gate between the worlds. It's with Gennai's help and a special set of Digimon-depicting cards that they were able to open the gate and follow their advesary and his forces, landing back in the summer camp they came from, still on the day they left from the real world's perpsective. Figuring the eighth child witnessed the Greymon VS Parrotmon battle years ago like they did, the group began their search on the basis that it was a kid who lived in Highton View Terrace at the time. One of Myotismon's agents, the feline Gatomon, defected however when her friend Wizardmon confirmed his suspcisions that not only was Kari the eighth child but Gatomon herself was her partner. Both Digimon set off to find Kari's Crest, but Gatomon was captured and Wizardmon seemingly drowned.

While Myotismon was placing a foggy barrier around Odaiba and sending Bakemon to round up residents into the Big Sight convention center, Tai and Kari met with Matt to disclose Kari's identity as the eighth child. Tai left to try finding the others, running into Sora and sending her back to Matt's location, before arriving at the convention center to rescue Mimi. By the time they returned to the others, they learned that Kari had given herself up to prevent more people from getting hurt to get to her, and the reunited group began a rescue mission. Wizardmon (who was rescued by Joe and T.K.) took fatal blow from Myotismon meant for Kari and Gatomon, and Kari's Digivice reacted and allowed Gatomon to digivolve to Angewomon. She was then able to channel every Digimon partners' attacks into one that seemingly wiped out Myotismon. But the remaining fog made it clear he wasn't gone yet.

It was then that Izzy got an online message from Gennai about a prophecy involving the undead king rising and a miracle at the hands of angels. As elements of the prophecy came to pass and a swarm of bats congregrated around the Fuji TV station, Myotismon rose again as VenomMyotismon. Agumon and Gabumon became MetalGreymon and WereGarurumon to hold VenomMyotismon back and buy Tai, Matt, and the latter's father Hiroaki time to try and evacuate the undead king's prisoners at the convention center. When that task proved unfeasable, the group resolved to stand their ground and fight. Recalling the prophecy, Izzy deciphered that Angewomon and Angemon needed to fire "arrows of light and hope" into Tai and Matt, respectively. This caused a reaction in Agumon and Gabumon that resulted in their digivolution to their hightest possible forms: WarGreymon and MetalGarurumon. Despite the major power boost, it was only through the kids' Digivices blinding VenomMyotismon that they had the opening to attack him at his weak point and defeat him allegedly for good. But once the undead king's fog barrier finally vanished, those who had been trapped inside saw a distorted, upside down image of the Digital World hanging in the sky. Due to the time distortion between worlds, centuries had passed in the Digital World during which something very wrong happened. The now eight teams of DigiDestined and Digimon partners took off for the Digital World to figure out what happened.

Upon arriving, they found the Digital World converted into one big peak called Spiral Mountain by four powerful Digimon called the Dark Masters--MetalSeadramon, Puppetmon, Machinedramon, and Piedmon. They managed to escape the four, as Piximon sacrifices himself to buy them time, but ran afoul with one of MetalSeadramon's minions before MetalSeadramon himself. Since WarGreymon is a "Dramon Destroyer" according to Izzy, Augumon warp digivolved to that form in hopes of beating the Dark Master in it. It was only through Whamon's help, resulting in his sacrifice, that WarGreymon was able to land the final blow and defeat MetalSeadramon. This caused all the ocean water that MetalSeadramon reconfigured into his piece of Spiral Mountain to revert back to its original form. Tai was ready to move on but not before the others held a memorial service for their fallen friends. The group soon found themselves being picked up and teleported all over the forest, which turned out to be Puppetmon manipulating them with dolls of the kids, before Puppetmon took T.K. as a playmate. By the time the rest arrived to rescue T.K., he'd already found and destroyed Puppetmon's map of the woods, dolls, and remote control and escaped on his own.

2002 DigiDestined

When a DigiDestined named Ken Ichijouji was struck by a digital spore that greatly enhanced his academic and atheletic abilities at the cost of corrupting him and turning him cruel and condescending, he looked to the Digital World like it was a playground for him to do whatever he wanted in. Armed with a modified Digivice that could prevent other Digimon from digivolving, he came across the means of creating black obelisks called Control Spires that could spread his influence further and created dark rings he could forcibly cuff onto Digimon to make them suseptable to his will. Ken declared himself the Digimon Emperor and only grew crueler, to the point of even turning his own partner, Wormmon, into his own personal slave.

In response, the powers of the Digital World created three new Digivices based on Ken's and sent each to a witness of the 1999 and 2000 Digimon activity on Earth: Davis Motomiya, Yolei Inoue, and Cody Hida. The new Digivices; dubbed the D-3s by Izzy Izumi for their settings of Digital, Detect, and Discover; were also capable of activating Digimental-type Digi-Eggs to "armor digivolve" select Digimon they are compatable with, a very early subsittute to digivolving from before the natural varation became more common. The three were joined by T.K. and Kari from the 1999 team, whose Digivices were modified to D-3s to make use of the Digimental Digi-Eggs as well, and the older members of the 1999 team quickly fell into the role of mentors for the new team.

The team's battle strategy was initially to attack and liberate each of the Digimon Emperor's strongholds individually while one of the previous team's Digimon partners would stick around to keep an eye on things. When the Emperor started spreading his influence faster than this tactic could effectively handle, the team resolved to find his main base and take it down. Further complicating matters was when the Digimon Emperor captured Agumon, partner to the former team's leader, and ultimately developed a stronger dark spiral device through trial-and-error tests on Agumon when his higher forms proved harder to control with the regular dark rings.

The Emperor eventually created a dangrous mishmash Digimon called Kimeramon and quickly lost control of it. Kimeramon wrecked havoc on the Digital World before Davis's partner Veemon managed to utilize a special Golden Digi-Egg created from a Crest of Kindness that Ken was meant to inheret before the dark spore corrupted him. Armor digivolved into a form called Magnamon, he went toe to toe with Kimeramon but was only able to defeat it when Wormmon sacrificed all of his energy to boost Magnamon. Seeing his partner's selfless act and then watching him vanish forced Ken to realize the Digital World wasn't just a game he could play around with and put him through the horrible realization of everything he was doing to real people. The past bad blood between them made it hard for Ken to integrate into the team after he renounced his Digimon Emperor persona and began working to undo his mark on the Digital World. But Davis, having seen his potential for kindness in his creast, was more than willing to extend the olive branch.

A man named Yukio Oikawa sent two Digimon he personally created, the spider-like Arukenimon and the mummy-like Mummymon, to utilize the leftover Control Spires in the creation of artificial Digimon to wreck the Digital World. Ken would offiicially become a member of the 2002 team after they worked together to prevent his former base from exploding and his and Davis's partners learned to perform a fusion type of digivolving called DNA digivolving. Some independant team bonding would later lead Kari and Yolei's partners and then later T.K. and Cody's partners managing the same thing. After the 2002 kids foiled a number of her attacks, Arukenimon responded by merging a hundred Control Spires into one mega level Digimon named BlackWarGreymon. To everyone's surprise, BlackWarGreymon grew a level of sapience and self-awareness, causing him to rebel against his creator. Nonetheless, he could be manipulated into acting within Oikawa's agenda while motivated by his own desires. Agumon believed there was a heart in BlackWarGreymon, despite his artificial origins, and would repeatedly try appealing to it.

Influenced by the actions of Arukenimon and Mummymon, BlackWarGreymon destroyed several sacred "Destiny Stones" around the Digital World, causing the world to become unstable. One of the Harmonious Ones, Azulongmon, intervened and rebuffed BlackWarGreymon's attempts to pick a fight. Azulongmon revealed that the Control Spires had played a part in sealing the Harmonious Ones away again before encouraging BlackWarGreymon to find his purpose in life outside of letting Oikawa's minions manipulate him. On Christmas Eve, Azulongmon gifted the DigiDestined with one of his DigiCores through Digital World Agent Gennai, which allowed their partners to reach higher levels. On the same night, Arukenimon and Mummymon opened Digi-Ports and erected Control Spires all over the real world, letting wild Digimon spill out to run amock. The DigiDestined of the world were able to coordinate their efforts to destroy all the Control Spires in the real world and return the wild Digimon to their own, but this proved to be a distraction while Oikawa initiated a new phase of his plan.

Sometime afterwards, multiple parties took interest in the dark spore in Ken's neck: a dark Digimon named Daemon and Oikawa. Oikawa won out when the 2002 DigiDestined managed to banish Daemon to the Dark Ocean, and he managed to use a copy of the spore he created from Ken to inject it into multiple children who were down on their luck and lured in by promises to improve their lives. The imperfect nature of the copies led the spores to grow into "dark flowers", which Oikawa harvested to use the children's innocence consumed by the flowers to create a gateway to the Digital World. However, BlackWarGreymon had sacrified himself to save Cody's grandfather from a lethal attack by Oikawa and converted his body into a barrier over the Highton View Terrace Digital Gate in his final moments. As a result, Oikawa ended up taking everyone to a sort of Dream World instead.

This world allowed for the return of old 1999 DigiDestined enemy Myotismon as MaloMyotismon, after he'd spent the past couple of years influencing Oikawa's actions before abandoning him in a near-death state. Davis actually figured out how to use the nature of the Dream World against MaloMyotismon, and the Dark Spore Children were given Digimon partners of their own to give them love and encouragement to combat the negative effects of the spores. In an act of attonement, Oikawa used the Dream World to convert his dying body into energy to restore the Digital World of its previous damage at his minions' hands. The 2002 team would continue to look after the Digital World before coming across a lead about a plot by someone named King Drasil. But Drasil's knight, Alphamon, caught them in the act and captured the DigiDestined and their partners. Tai would later discover the captives and free them, and they spent time recovering in the hospital while the original 1999 team foiled Drasil's plans and eventually returned to their DigiDestined duties upon release.

Lyoko Warriors

A small subset of DigiDestined from the Paris suburb of Boulogne-Billancourt, originally totally independent from the DigiDestined cause until their enemy, XANA, escaped their enclosed virtual environment into the greater Digital World. The group was founded three years prior after leader Jeremy Belpois found a powerful quantum supercomputer hidden beneath the abandoned Renault Auto Factory, which had been created in secret by computer scientist Waldo Schaeffer (alias Franz Hopper) to contain and provide energy for an artificially-constructed and secured section of the Digital World called Lyoko after abandoning a top-secret computer project known only as Project Carthage. By activating it, he awakened the slumbering girl trapped within, but he also awakened a dangerous artificial-intelligence (or "multi-agent system") named XANA.

In truth, their meeting and discovery of the supercomputer was influenced by Digital World Agent Gennai, who chose these children as they independently witnessed Digimon-related phenomena in the years prior to turning the supercomputer on. Recognizing that Project Carthage was a major potential threat to the Digital World and seeking to find Schaeffer's designs for their own purposes, Gennai wanted a team of DigiDestined to find the Lyoko supercomputer before they could. However, due to how shut-off Lyoko is from the rest of the Digital World, he was unaware that Schaeffer's multi-agent system had turned against him.

Whenever XANA used the Towers built around Lyoko to interface with the real world and launch attacks, Jeremy would send the other Lyoko Warriors to fight XANA's mechanical monsters and escort Aelita to the activated Tower, as she carried the special Annex Program that made the Towers recognize her "authority" and deactivate on her command. After XANA stole the "Keys to Lyoko", a package of master codes allowing full control of the virtual environment, from Aelita's data and escaped the confines of Lyoko with them, he started becoming stronger and more relentless. In response, the group recruited fellow student William to their cause to ease their burden.

William, unfortunately, got possessed by XANA on his first trip to Lyoko and was made to delete the enclosed environment's core data. As Jeremy worked feverishly to restore Lyoko as well as find and free William, fellow warrior Odd returned from his vacation at home with a Digivice and news of XANA's spread to the greater Digital World. Shortly after the rest of the gang began looking into this new information, freshly made Digivices began appearing to the rest of them as well…

Jeremy Belpois
(age 14)

The brains of the group and the one who started it. He is the top student of his class and, while inept at most sports, a surprisingly fit swimmer. Despite his not-so-perfect social skills and stubborn streak, Jeremy is a compassionate if somewhat naive kid with a brilliant mind. Living an initially friendless childhood, he spent much of it building building and programming miniature robots to pass the time. At the age of 11 and starting Kadic, he was assigned as a tutor for classmate Ulrich Stern, though their relationship didn't exceeded acquaintanceship at first.

Jeremy sneaked out to the abandoned Renault Auto Factory early October of 2003 to salvage old parts for his robots when he accidentally stumbled upon the freight elevator to the underground lab. After activating the supercomputer and discovering the slumbering Aelita inside, Jeremy became fascinated by what he (and the amnesiac Aelita herself) thought to be a form of artificial intelligence, nicknaming her Maya until she could recall her real name. In order to save Aelita from the evil entity also living in the "virtual world" of Lyoko named XANA, Jeremy began working on coming up with a materialization program to bring Aelita into the real world. Lyoko Warriors Yumi, Ulrich, and Odd were eventually pulled into their mess, and they since acted as body guards to Aelita on Lyoko whenever she deactivates whatever Tower of many there that XANA uses to influence the real world. Only once Jeremy finally created the "Code: Earth" program, the group was unable to deactivate the supercomputer without it potentially killing Aelita. The gang concluded XANA had infected her with a virus to link her to him.

Not wanting Aelita to remain living alone on Lyoko, Jeremy created a "Superscan" program that could instantly detect activated Towers in her place, creating hovering "vehicles" for the gang on Lyoko around the same time. As he also began work on an anti-virus to fully free Aelita from the supercomputer, Aelita began having strange visions that led her to a cottage in the woods labeled The Hermitage, which Jeremy linked to their school's old science teacher Franz Hopper. Meanwhile, XANA began attacking Aelita with a jellyfish monster called the Scythozoa to obtain something from her digital memory. After exploring various resources on Hopper--including a video diary that took a fair few months to decrypt--Jeremy discovered his relationship to Aelita as her father and deduced the "Keys to Lyoko" that he programmed into her Avatar were what XANA wanted. He also figured out the real reason Aelita couldn't survive without the supercomputer active was actually a vital fragment of her being XANA stole from her prior, which turned out to be her childhood memories. They were able to recover that fragment, but XANA made off with the keys.

While XANA gathered strength from the Digital World's greater amount of resources, Jeremy continued to use the supercomputer and Lyoko to try tracking him down. Knowing this made them still a threat to him, XANA sent monsters to try deleting the core programming of Lyoko and upped his attacks on the Lyoko Warriors. Jeremy and the others recruited schoolmate William in as a new member, but they lost him to XANA's control. Jeremy spent the next break from school trying to figure out how to locate William and free him from XANA's control, as well as use the encrypted data the in-hiding Hopper was sending him to recreate the deleted Lyoko. By the time school started again, he was at least able to recreate Lyoko's outer shell and core sector when William mysteriously reappeared. He appeared free of XANA's control until he suddenly kidnapped Aelita and took her to Lyoko, where he attempted to throw her into the treacherous Digital Sea for unknown reasons. Around the same time, Odd came forward from his own break time and began telling the others about his experience in the greater Digital World, showing them his Digivice and introducing them to his Digimon partner over a computer interface. With not only XANA-William to worry about but also the existence of a bigger virtual universe beyond Lyoko--and the influence XANA might have on it--Jeremy soon after discovered a similar Digivice sitting in front of his computer one morning. Moments later, he saw another Digimon gazing at him through the monitor and declaring the two of them to be partners.

Powers/Abilities: Jeremy is a highly skilled programmer and mechanist. He's built various small robots in his spare time, including a robotic duplicate of Odd's dog Kiwi (dubbed Kiwi 2) to play basketball. He's also made various programs and amendments to existing ones on the supercomputer, such as the Superscan, the virtual vehicles (Overwing, Overbike, and Overboard), and Aelita's now obsolete materialization program. He is also able to create a port attachment on the supercomputer which the Digivices can be plugged into. He owns a D-3 model Digivice with a light blue grip.

Family: Jeremy has a father named Michael who doesn't always understand his son but is proud of him nonetheless. Nothing is known of Jeremy's mother except that she's still around and happily married to Michael. Jeremy also has a "cooler" paternal cousin named Patrick that he's admittedly jealous of.

Digimon Partner: Shelley, a Kamemon named by Odd for both his shell and Mary Shelley, nodding to how he digivolved by absorbing a lightning attack from one of XANA's spectres like the monster of Shelley's story was reborn from lightning. A cyborg turtle Digimon, he is generally more laid back than his human partner. And a fair amount of their interactions is him trying to reel Jeremy back when the latter becomes too absorbed in or worked up about something, often by offering to work on some code Jeremy's invested in for him in order to give him a break. Nearly half of their interactions are through "video chat" on Jeremy's computer, with Shelley speaking to him from the Digital World--usually Lyoko--much the same way Aelita did before Jeremy perfected her materialization program. Shelley is far more intelligent than first impressions might suggest, to the point that he's capable of running the standard supercomputer programs when Jeremy is unavailable to. He knows how to apply his coding savvy to medical use on his fellow code-manifest Digimon, once saying he considered being a nurse. He's quite modest and tends to become flustered in response to high praise. His other forms are Pichimon (Fresh), Chapmon (In-Training), and Gwappamon (Champion).

  • Attacks:
    • Pichimon
      • Bubble Blow: Spits out soap-like bubbles from his mouth and blinds the opponent's eyes, then flees.
    • Chapmon
      • Foam Shower: Spits bubbles from his mouth to confuse the opponent, then flees.
    • Kamemon
      • Armored Arrow: Fires an arrow-shaped missile that he is able to guide until it hits the opponent.
      • Torto-Tackle: Rolls the ball in his abdomen to charge the opponent, then assaults them with the helmet on his head.
      • Shell Guard: Stores his whole body in his shell and reflects the opponent's attacks back unchanged.
      • Shell Attack: Uses his head to attack the enemy.
      • Water Shot: Attacks with a bursting stream of water.
    • Gwappamon
      • DJ Shooter: Rotates the disc on his head at high speed and then shoots it off.
      • Gawappa Punch: Strikes the opponent with his extensible hands.
      • Gawappa Rapper: Surprises the enemy with a mysterious dance.

Ulrich Stern
(age 15)

The serious lone wolf guy of the group and samurai knight of Lyoko. Ulrich was born and raised in Germany by an overbearing dad. And when he couldn't get his grades to that perfect level his dad would approve, he turned to soccer as a means of making him proud of him for at least something. He attended boarding schools in Paris suburbs from an early age, which led up to Kadic Academy in Boulogne-Billancourt where his teachers requested classmate Jeremy be his tutor to help his grades improve. He also earned the unwanted affections of Sissi Delmas, the Kadic principal's bratty daughter. One day in October 2003, an energetic new kid named Odd moved into his dorm as a roommate. While dealing with his overly engaging personality, both witnessed Jeremy get electrocuted in a freak vending machine accident. Little did any of them realize, this was no accident.

After taking Jeremy to the school infirmary, Ulrich attended an evening martial arts class where the only other student was a Japanese girl from a grade above his. Getting flustered after their sparring match for reasons he didn't yet understand, he ran off back to his dorm only to find it torn up by his new roommate's dog, Kiwi. Threatening to report this violation to the no-pets policy, Ulrich got sidetracked when he caught Jeremy back in his own dorm and being attacked by his own robots. Knowing Jeremy had to be hiding something, Ulrich eventually got him to spill about the supercomputer under the factory and Lyoko. When Jeremy needed a guinea pig to test the scanners and virtualize something to Lyoko, Ulrich was more than happy to "volunteer" Kiwi.

His attempt to sneak off with the dog without Odd noticing, however, were foiled when an impatient Sissi tried calling him over a meeting he'd forgotten about in the excitement. As his cell phone ring woke Odd and alerted him to his activities, the latter tailed Ulrich straight to the factory where he inadvertently took Kiwi's place in the scanner at the last minute. Knowing he was responsible, Ulrich volunteered to go into Lyoko after him when Odd ran afoul with the monsters there. Ulrich and Odd eventually made it back to the real world, where they found Jeremy under attack by the supercomputer cables come to life, and Odd wound up saving both Ulrich and Jeremy.

Ulrich went to the gym to settle matters with the Japanese girl with a rematch and learned her name was Yumi. When a large electricity monster attacked them at the gym, he correctly deduced the same force behind the other attacks was behind this one, but he ended up saying too much in front of Yumi in a phone conversation with Jeremy. With no other choice, he took Yumi to the factory where she decided to join the two boys on Lyoko. The three worked together to help the virtual girl within named Aelita past the monsters to an active one of the world's many Towers. When all the madness finally died down, Aelita's entering the Tower and engaging its interface stopped all the attacks but failed to bring her to the real world as planned.

As the group began to understand who their enemy, XANA, was, the group vowed to keep helping Aelita deactivate his Towers every time he launched an attack on Earth until Jeremy could create a materialization program for her. Along the way, he started developing mutual feelings for Yumi, but their equally mutual denial led to plenty of ridiculous drama along the way--especially whenever Sissi stepped in to provoke it out of her desire for "Ulrich dear". Nonetheless, he remained loyal to their cause through Aelita's eventual materialization, the discovery she was still linked to the computer, the mystery surrounding the Hermitage cottage and Lyoko's creator Franz Hopper, and even XANA's eventual escape from the supercomputer via the "keys" he stole from Aelita.

When XANA's attacks grew worse, he was not as enthusiastic as some of the others about recruiting William--one of Yumi's classmates and a rival to Ulrich for her affection--but felt he could prove a potentially valuable ally. To most of the gang's surprise, it wasn't Ulrich but Yumi herself who was the most against the idea. In the end, William was ultimately recruited as planned, but it ended in disaster when XANA possessed him and used him to delete Lyoko's core data. By the time they all came back from break, Jeremy had been able to recreate Lyoko's outer shell and core, but William surprised them with a sudden reappearance while still under XANA's control and tried throwing Aelita into the Digital Sea. Odd, back from his own break in Italy, revealed to the gang he ended up going on an adventure in an even bigger Digital World surrounding Lyoko, which is full of creatures called Digimon. Not long after Odd showed them all his Digivice and introduced them to his Digimon partner, Ulrich was confused to find that another Digivice had appeared in his possessions…

Powers/Abilities: Ulrich's best strengths are his athletics--he's possibly the best soccer player on his team at school, and he's well trained in a number of martial arts, most notably Pencak Silat. On Lyoko, he is blessed with superhuman speed, which he will use in conjunction with his own natural sword skills. He also has the power to "triplicate"--make two copies of himself which he was total mental control over--and "triangulate"--in which he and his two clones surround an enemy at equal distance and project the image of Ulrich running around them at super speed to confuse it. He can call his clones back into himself with the command "fusion". His primary vehicle in the Digital World is the Overbike: a green, rocket propelled uni-moterbike that can fly when necessary. He owns a D-3 model Digivice with a dark mustard yellow grip.

Family: His only known family is his two parents. One is Walter Stern, an overbearing perfectionist father who expects nothing short of the best from his son and isn't shy about his disappointment when he doesn't. The other is a poor mother just trying to keep the peace between the two.

Digimon Partner: Leon, an Elecmon who's generally more outgoing than his more introverted human partner, but his empathetic nature helps him understand and bond with Ulrich. Playful nature aside, Leon has a powerful sense of justice and a strong moral code. Leon doesn't remember anything from his life before his last reconfiguration and assigning to Ulrich as a partner, suggesting he's one of numerous Digimon whose backed up memories still haven't kicked in yet, but he has strange feelings of deja vu on occasion. His other forms are Punimon (Fresh), Tsunomon (In-Training), and Leomon (Champion).

  • Attacks:
    • Punimon
      • Bubble Blow: Produces resilient, acidic bubbles to intimidate the opponent.
    • Tsunomon
      • Bubble Blow: Produces bubbles from its mouth to intimidate the opponent.
      • Tackle: A powerful charge used against the opponent.
    • Elecmon
      • Super Thunder Strike: Shoots electric bolts from his tails. If the bolts hit Ulrich's digital sabers, they can be channeled and fired as a cutting range attack by swinging the sabers at a target.
      • Body Attack: Smacks foe with his electrically-charged tails.
      • Lightning Knife: Stealthily releases three knives of electricity.
    • Leomon
      • Fist of the Beast King: Chokes the life out of the opponent with his ultimate mystery, by launching an aura in the shape of a lion's head from his fist.
      • Lion Sword: Multiple attack with the Lion Sword.

Odd Della Robbia
(age 15)

The creative and fun-loving one of the group, as well as the guy in the "big purple cat costume" on Lyoko. Odd's first encounter with a Digimon was Christmas Eve of 2002 when he was visiting relatives in New York City and "saw a big walking cherry tree [Cherrymon] pulling a King Kong." In October of next year, Odd was transfered to Kadic Academy, where he quickly latched onto his new roommate, Ulrich, much to the latter's initial chagrin. Odd smuggled his beloved pet dog Kiwi to school with him, despite the campus's no-pets policy. Ulrich nearly reported Kiwi out of spite but got sidetracked when he got inadvertently dragged into Jeremy's business with the supercomputer and Lyoko. He then kidnapped Kiwi while Odd was asleep, but a sudden call on Ulrich's cell and a yelp from the dog awoke him and put him on alert. The kidnapping was actually Ulrich's intent to use Kiwi as a guinea pig for the scanners and virtualization program, but Odd followed and wound up accidentally taking Kiwi's place.

After being joined on Lyoko by Ulrich and later the other's sparring partner Yumi, the group began getting a grasp on how things in Lyoko worked. They also resolved to help Aelita deactivate XANA's Towers whenever he'd use one to attack the real world, buying Jeremy time to make a program to bring her to the real world. When they finally did but found Aelita was still vitally bound to the supercomputer, the gang set her up as a boarder, posing as Odd's cousin from Canada, while Jeremy worked on finding a way to fully free her once and for all. Over the course of those few years, Odd dated just about every girl in his grade at school, which unfortunately earned him a bad reputation among them. Due to his optimistic nature, he was possibly the most supportive of the notion of recruiting William into the group--an act which, of course, wound up biting them all in the bum.

During the break from school spent in Italy, Odd came across Kiwi messing around with a handheld device that was in his possessions and, not recognizing it, played around with it until it opened a gate on his bedroom computer into the Digital World. When he stumbled inside, a small digital creature leaped happily into the confused Odd's arms while declaring he's been looking for him. When Odd shows him his newly found device on request, the creature explained the Digital World to him, adding that the handheld was a Digivice and that he was his new Digimon partner. While in in the Digital World, Odd privately began noticed subtle hints of XANA's influence here and there, the malevolent program having managed to escape Lyoko some time ago. He returned to school just in time to discover Jeremy had managed to partially recreate Lyoko after XANA-controlled William destroyed it--as well as witness William's return and attempt to chuck Aelita into the Digital Sea for unknown reasons.

Odd told the gang about his introduction to the Digital World and seeing signs of XANA throughout, and he showed them his Digivice and introduced them to his partner over the computer as evidence. It was this act--combined with the group's enemy's growing activity in the Digital World--that led to the rest of the Lyoko Warriors receiving their own Digivices and partners.

Powers/Abilities: Where Odd lacks in academic achievement, he more than makes up for it in his many creative talents. These include everything from fashion, to painting ans sculpting, to various forms of music. He is also has a talent for juggling, acrobatics, and skateboarding. He can also pack away an astonishing amount of food while still remaining scrawny svelte. On Lyoko, he has the power to fire "laser arrows"--digital arrow heads--from the backs of his wrists. He can also generate a personal energy shield by crossing his arms in front of his chest and uttering the voice command "Shield!" At one point, he bore the power "future flash", the power to see spontaneous short bursts of near future events at random moments, which Jeremy removed from his coding for memory space on the notion that it wasn't worth said memory space it took up. His primary vehicle in the Digital World is the Overboard: a purple, rocket propelled hoverboard. He owns a D-3 model Digivice with a purple grip.

Family: Odd is the son of talented artist parents, opera singer Robert Della Robbia and script supervisor Marguerite, whom Odd finds overly-supportive of him to the point that it kinda starts getting annoying. On the flip side, Adele, Elizabeth, Pauline, Marie, and Louise, his five older sisters, have nearly the opposite relationship with him, doing nothing but bully him whenever they're around him. Aelita is, by school records, his maternal cousin, but this is, of course, a lie.

Digimon Partner: Gumbo, a Gumdramon with notably short ears for his Digimon species. Gumbo is an energetic, fun-loving jokester who loves showing off, and a real "wise guy" in Leon's words. Naturally, he and Odd hit it off easily. Gumbo was the first of the Lyoko Digimon to meet their partners, joining with Odd before he even returned to Kadic Academy from break, and was the only Digimon to witness the first phase of Lyoko's recreation. His other forms are Poyomon (Fresh), Bukamon (In-Training), and Arresterdramon (Champion).

  • Attacks:
    • Poyomon
      • Super Bubble Blow: Spits powerfully acidic bubbles from his mouth to defend from intruders.

    • Bukamon
      • Air Bubbles
      • Bubbles: Fires pink bubbles from his mouth.
      • Froth Bubbles: Spits froth that looks like bubbles.
      • Acid Bubbles: Produces bubble-like objects from his mouth to intimidate the opponent.
    • Gumdramon
      • Ran-gum Break: Freely wields his Shippodzuchi (Tail Hammer) as a hammer.
      • Jacked Hammer: Swings down his super-sized Shippodzuchi while carrying out a forward handspring.
      • Fire Vortex: Strikes a single blow with its Shippodzuchi while performing continuous forward somersaults at high speed to generate flames.

  Yumi Ishiyama
(age 16)

The designated team mom of the group, and a sort of geisha/ninja mix on Lyoko. The Ishiyama family moved from Kyoto in Japan to Paris in France, due to a business transfer on her father's part, when Yumi was only a baby. Although she was too young to remember her life there, her parents raised her on Japanese values and tales of her old home. As such, Yumi is very proud of her Japanese heritage, and she won't hesitate to show it. A short number of years after they settled into their new home, Yumi's mom gave birth to her baby brother, Hiroki. Yumi is and always was a compassionate and generous individual, but she always hid behind a cold and sarcastic facade to anyone she wasn't close to. As a result, though, this made it hard for Yumi to get close to people.

Once she came of age, her parents enrolled her at the nearby Kadic Academy as a day student. Around October 2003, Yumi joined an evening martial arts elective where the only other student was a boy from a grade below her named Ulrich. Their first sparring match ended awkwardly, with the boy running off before they could even bow at the end of the match. This act initially rubbed Yumi the wrong way, but Ulrich soon after returned in the hopes of a rematch to settle things. After their rematch ended in a tie, Ulrich was about to run off to meet with his friends when a large electricity monster emerged from the gym's lights. As the pair ran away from the monster, Ulrich contacted one of his friends and began ranting about some supercomputer the other had allegedly found. Intrigued, Yumi pressured Ulrich into taking her with him to it.

On the way to as well as while in Lyoko, Yumi learned how Jeremy found the super computer, about the virtual girl living inside it and Jeremy's plan to materialize her using an activated Tower there, and how an evil force also within has been attacking them. She had difficulty believing their story until she traveled to Lyoko for herself. After the girl made it to the Tower with Yumi, Ulrich, and Odd's help; but Jeremy's plan with the activated Tower fell flat; the gang learned more about what they were dealing with. XANA was a shapeless form of artificial intelligence bent on attacking humanity by using the Towers to interface with the real world, and the girl named Aelita was the only one who could deactivate the Towers of Lyoko to stop his attacks. While Jeremy worked on creating a way to materialize Aelita to the real world, the others vowed to help escort her every time a Tower activated.

Once Jeremy was able to bring Aelita out of the supercomputer but not totally disconnect her from it, Aelita began attending school as a boarder. Following this, she and Yumi became close gal pals in everyday real world life. She and the rest of the gang supported Aelita through her visions of the Hermitage cottage, learning Lyoko creator Franz Hopper was her forgotten father, and XANA stealing her "Keys to Lyoko" in order to escape the supercomputer. The two girls continued to bond over the span of time since then as Jeremy worked on trying to find XANA. All the while, she had to deal with the unwanted affections of a classmate named William, which caused constant friction between the latter and Ulrich. One day, William helped the gang out of a major jam in which XANA nearly blew the whole factory up. Despite having his memory wiped afterwards, he would still recall the incident in his dreams. With XANA's attacks growing more intense, the group suggested initiating William as a member, but Yumi absolutely refused, and it was only once XANA had the gang pushed into a proverbial corner that she finally agreed.

She would later regret her decision to let him on, as his naive arrogance soon after his maiden voyage opened him up to attack and possession by XANA. The possessed William went on to defeat all the Lyoko Warriors and destroy the code data that holds Lyoko together, destroying the entire virtual environment. Thanks to encrypted data sent to him by Hopper, Jeremy was able to recreate Lyoko in due time, but William was still lost from the aftermath of its destruction. Soon after Jeremy brought back Lyoko's shell and core sector, however, William mysteriously resurfaced. But it was a trick by XANA, still possessing the lost recruit, to kidnap Aelita and attempt to throw her into the Digital Sea. Around the same time this occurred, Odd revealed he'd discovered an even broader Digital World than Lyoko during his previous break and became partners with a sort of creature there called a Digimon. The next day, Yumi found that an odd handheld device had appeared in her house. And once managing to send off her nosy little brother and getting a good look at it, she realized it looked just like the so-called "Digivice" Odd had used to open a digital port on Jeremy's dorm computer and introduce the group to his Digimon partner.

Powers/Abilities: Yumi is talented in various fields, both academic and athletic. She gets good grades in school, and she is trained in both gymnastics and a number of martial arts. She has some notable computer skills, but nowhere near to Jeremy's level. She can at least, however, run some of the supercomputer's more basic functions in Jeremy's place if need be. On Lyoko, she has the power of telekinesis, which she can sometimes use in conjunction with her virtual weapon, a pair of tessen war fans. Her primary vehicle in the Digital World is the Overwing: a gray, rocket propelled hovercraft platform with a wide scooter-like handlebar to steer with. She owns a D-3 model Digivice with a cranberry red grip.

Family: Yumi's parents are Takeho and Akiko Ishiyama, two strict but loving parents. Takeho is a working man, and his job is the reason his family lives in France. At one point during his daughter's Lyoko adventures, he lost his job for unexplained reasons and was only able to keep his family in France when he soon after found new work. He once claimed to hate all domestic animals, but his bonding with Odd's dog Kiwi one day proved otherwise. He constantly worries for Yumi when she stays out late without explanation, and that sometimes causes friction between the two sometimes. He and Akiko's relationship can be rocky at times, but they have almost always managed to pull through on their own. The one time they didn't, it was with Ulrich's help. Akiko is a print editor, and she can occasionally be found at home working on materials such as textbooks and dictionaries. Their younger child--having been born more or less around the time of the so-called "terrorist attack" in Highton View Terrace--is Hiroki. He is usually portrayed as the stereotypical bratty little brother, but he is shown to deeply care for the big sister he so often teases, when push comes to shove. He's been shown to to be quite clever, having a fair number of talents himself--as far as Yumi is concerned, he may be too clever for his own good.

Digimon Partner: Nickname, a Digimon who I will describe here. Her other forms are Fresh (Fresh), In-Training (In-Training), and Champion (Champion).

  Aelita Schaeffer
(Aelita Stones)

(biological age 14)

The princess of Lyoko, and a sort of angelic elf there. Aelita is the daughter of Waldo F. Schaeffer (aka Franz Hopper) and Anthea Hopper-Schaeffer. She is a compassionate soul who wears her heart on her sleeve and often puts the wellbeing of others before her own. She lived most of her early childhood in a cabin in the mountains, where she discovered her ear for music when her father taught her how to play the piano. One Christmas morning, her mother gave her a handcrafted elf doll that her father dubbed "Mr. Pück", and she grew to adore her new toy. This relatively perfect life came to a screeching halt when two men in suits appeared out of nowhere and abducted Anthea, driving off while leaving her daughter and husband alone.

Aelita and her father moved to a cottage in the woods of Boulogne-Billancourt, which they affectionately named the Hermitage. Aelita was home-schooled there while, unbeknown to her, her father--now going by Franz Hopper as the nearby boarding school's science teacher--secretly worked on his supercomputer in a lab beneath the abandoned Renault Factory. Men in suits like the ones before appeared at their house one day, and Aelita and her father were forced to flee while the latter had a special locker key hidden away in Mr. Pück. Hopper took his daughter to his lab, where virtualized the both of them to Lyoko for safety. But when his AI, XANA, turned on them and failed to be reasoned with, Hopper was forced to shut down the supercomputer with the two of them still inside.

Before the supercomputer lost power, XANA was able to steal a small portion of Aelita's memory in an attempt to take her "Keys to Lyoko". While he failed to get what he was after, his actions left Aelita tethered to Lyoko and--as a result of her memory loss--believing herself to be an AI as well when a curious Jeremy rebooted the supercomputer nine years later. The two bonded over the next year and a half as Jeremy worked tirelessly to create a materialization program for her--eventually succeeding, only to discover the tether and mistake it for a virus. Jeremy spent the next several months trying to cure this so-called "virus" until he finally figured out the truth and shifted his focus to recovering her missing fragment.

Before then, Jeremy had managed to create a program to detect activated Towers, allowing Aelita to live in the real world in the meantime as her duties on Lyoko were lessened. There, she was lured to her old home by her missing memories calling to her, and the gang soon after discovered information on Franz Hopper, as well as Mr. Pück's hiding place; the locker key inside it led them to a case of encrypted CDs that Jeremy decoded to find Hopper's video diary on his project, and it was through here there he learned of Aelita's relation to him. Once he finally located where XANA had hid her missing fragment, Jeremy sent the team on a mission to retrieve it, but it was a trap by XANA to isolate Aelita and take her remaining memory. By the time XANA managed to escape using the Keys to Lyoko, Aelita was technically dead from data loss. But her father came out of hiding and was able to recover every bit of her memory taken, including the original missing fragment.

Even though XANA had managed to escape the confines of Lyoko, making shutting the supercomputer down useless, Team Lyoko strengthened their resolve to fight their nemesis. Knowing this all too well, XANA began attacking the Core of Lyoko in an attempt to take away their one edge on him. To further aid this goal, he started possessing Aelita on Lyoko in attempts to use her to gain access to each surface sector's data and delete it. Jeremy, in response, began devising a program to virtualize his friends directly into Sector Five, as opposed to taking a transport from a surface sector. Nonetheless, XANA's relentless attacks wearing the warriors thin led the gang to consider classmate William as a new recruit, Aelita herself citing how he'd helped them in the past. Sadly, circumstances forced her to take him on a mission to protect the core by herself, and XANA took advantage of William's recklessness to possess him. After a brief battle, XANA-William reached the core itself and destroyed it--destroying Lyoko in the process, and consequently getting his puppet lost in the Digital Sea.

The team assumed all hope lost by this point. But to their surprise, Hopper himself e-mailed them from his hiding spot in the net with encrypted data on how to revive Lyoko. Jeremy spent all of the next break from school preparing this data to run back on the supercomputer, as well as trying to locate the missing William. When school started up again, he and Aelita were able to recreate Lyoko's outer shell and core sector, and William mysteriously resurfaced. But still under XANA's control, William kidnapped Aelita and took her back to the virtual world with him where he tried to throw her into the Digital Sea, for reasons thus far unknown; the others arrived to save her in the nick of time. Around the same time, Odd recounted his adventure while on break in Italy, in which he learned that there's a greater Digital World beyond Lyoko. And as part of his story, he introduced the whole group to his "Digimon partner".

Powers/Abilities: Aelita is a highly gifted student, particularly in math and science, and has one of the highest grade point average in her class, second only to Jeremy. She also has an excellent ear for music and a talent for mixing sounds, making her a natural as a DJ. On Lyoko, she has the power of "creativity", which means she can see and manipulate the code of a digital environment to change features, though excessive use can be taxing on her health. She doesn't have a primary vehicle in the Digital World and usually uses one of the others or hitches a ride with them, usually Yumi's Overwing. Jeremy later programs her a star-shaped bracelet that generates angel-like energy wings. She owns a D-3 model Digivice with a hot pink grip.

Family: Aelita's father is Waldo Franz Schaeffer and her mother is Anthea Hopper-Schaeffer. The three of them had lived in a mountain cabin until mysterious agents in black suits invaded their land and kidnapped Anthea in front of Aelita. Waldo and Aelita would flee their cabin home to a cozy villa in the suburbs of Paris, which they would call the Hermitage, and Waldo changed his name to Franz Hopper. They would live there peacefully for several more years as Franz worked as a science teacher for the nearby Kadic Academy before the "men in black" finally caught up to them, and Franz took Aelita to his secret supercomputer to upload both into Lyoko. When XANA turned against them, Franz was forced to shut off the supercomputer from the inside and go into hiding, remaining hidden even after Jeremy booted it back up. Aelita lost her memories, and Franz Hopper became a subject of mystery to the Lyoko Warriors when they discovered his hidden and encoded video diary. Franz helped decode his own diary from his place of hiding and then sacrified much of his energy to fully restore Aelita's memories before going deep into hiding again to recover his strength. Franz fled into the Net Ocean when Lyoko was destroyed, and he later sent Jeremy a complex e-mail with all the data necessary to rebuild Lyoko from scratch. He remains lost somewhere out there, and Aelita's determined to find him again. And what of her missing mother...?

Digimon Partner: Munin, a Tapirmon who only joined the team after Lyoko's construction was nearly complete, courtesy of Izzy Izumi personally delivering their egg to Aelita from Gennai. Their name was chosen by themself from a childhood book of Aelita's called Viking Gods & Legends. Munin is a gentle soul who enjoys listening to Aelita's stories, but the things they're capable of would make it foolish to get on their bad side. Munin spends nights by Aelita and aborbs her nightmares of past trauma so she can sleep peacefully, but sometimes they're too strong to handle. Their other forms are Zerimon (Fresh), Gummymon (In-Training), and Boarmon (Champion).

    • Zerimon
      • Acid Bubble: Spits acid bubbles to intimidate the opponent.
    • Gummymon
      • Double Bubble: Spews out a lot of adhesive bubbles.
      • Frothy Spit: Spits acid foam at an enemy.
